Who is Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, Ambassador Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi took on the role of the 32nd Foreign Secretary of Pakistan on August 17, 2023. Before this, he was the Special Secretary (Administration) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His previous roles include being Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkey (2017-2022) and Hungary (2015-2017). Ambassador Qazi has broad experience in handling both one-on-one and international matters. He has worked in various diplomatic roles, including at the United Nations in Geneva, the High Commission of Pakistan in New Delhi, and the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, DC.
At the headquarters, Ambassador Qazi has worked on U.S. affairs, human rights-related issues in the UN Division, and as part of the Foreign Secretary’s staff. He also served as the Joint Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office from 2013 to 2015. Ambassador Qazi also had a deputation with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in Islamabad from 2002 to 2004.
Born in 1964, Ambassador Qazi joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1990. He has an MBBS degree and a Master’s Degree in Public Diplomacy. He is married and has three children.
