Lt General Asim Munir Biography – Lieutenant General Asim Munir lead Pakistan Army as the 11th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) from November 30, 2022 a day after General Qamar Javed Bajwa retires as the COAS.
Lt General Asim Munir, honored with the Sword of Honour and the Hilal-i-Imtiaz in March 2018, holds the prestigious three-star rank of general since September 2018. Presently, he fulfills the role of Quarter Master General at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
In early 2017, he assumed the role of Director General Military Intelligence (MI) before later serving as the 23rd Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the nation’s top intelligence agency, from October 25, 2018, until he was succeeded by Lt General Faiz Hameed on June 16, 2019.
Munir, commanded the XXX Corps in Gujranwala from June 17, 2019 to October 6, 2021.
Initially, he started his military career in 1986. He is from the 17th Course of the Officers Training School (OTS) in Mangla.
Asim Munir is set to become Pakistan’s second Chief of Army Staff following General Zia Ul Haq, who also graduated from the OTS Mangla. He began his military journey as part of the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment.
During his tenure as a Lieutenant Colonel in Madina, Asim Munir achieved the esteemed title of Hafiz-i-Quran at the age of 38, showcasing his deep commitment to religious learning and practice.
Coming from a Syed family background, Asim Munir’s father, Syed Sarwar Munir Shah, was a respected educator who served as the principal of FG Technical High School Lalkurti Rawalpindi.
In earlier years, Asim Munir and his family resided in Dheri Hassan Abad in Rawalpindi before relocating to another area, marking transitions in their personal and professional lives.
