During a live broadcast, something totally unexpected happened to BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri. She unintentionally turned into a meme when her attempt at a “private joke” didn’t quite go as planned and ended up being hilariously amusing.
The incident occurred as BBC News transitioned to the studio for the latest headlines. Viewers were briefly treated to an unexpected hand gesture before Moshiri, realizing her spontaneous slip, swiftly returned to a more conventional news anchor pose, offering a quick, “Live from London, this is BBC News.”
The mistake, which was immediately cut and shared on different Twitter accounts, rapidly spread on social media. In response, Moshiri explained the situation and apologized to viewers.
According to the presenter, She made the gesture as a part of an inside joke she was sharing with her friends at the gallery. It was a countdown with her fingers, but it ended up unintentionally displaying the middle finger, which could be seen as offensive.
It was not my intention for this to happen, and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone. I wasn’t ‘flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really.
Even though the act stirred up some controversy, people on the internet seemed to find it amusing. One user went as far as calling it “pretty cute,” and many others appreciated Moshiri’s authenticity, expressing the wish that she wouldn’t encounter any negative consequences.

“Lmfao she’s real asf for this. She better not lose her job. Better not hear one complaint,” read one comment.
“I think the BBC needs more people like her 😂😂,” another user chimed in.
Turning her into an internet meme, one user humorously wrote, “Me to my friend but then the teacher calls out my name.”
Moshiri, who earned a promotion to become one of the main hosts on the BBC News channel in February, has been a part of the British broadcasting company for more than 20 years.
