The Latest iPhone 16 series is expected to be released in late 2024, but we’ve got some initial information from sources involved in making the phones.
Unfortunately, it seems that the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will continue to have 60Hz screens for another year, as per the leaked information. On the brighter side, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are anticipated to have slightly larger displays at 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches, and they might also support a smoother 120Hz LTPO technology. Still, there’s some skepticism about the Pro Max’s size being accurate, so it’s wise to take this information with a pinch of caution.
On the other hand, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to maintain their current sizes of 6.12-inch and 6.69-inch, respectively. Notably, industry insider Ross Young seems to validate this information, stating that Pro Motion technology is slated to be introduced to the standard models in 2025 with the iPhone 17 family.
Returning to the 2024 iPhone 16 lineup, anticipate the inclusion of Dynamic Island on all models, as one would expect. The A17 Pro chipset may come down to the vanilla phones while the Pro siblings could get the new speculated A18 SoC.
If you’ve been using iPhones for a long time, you might not care much about the fact that the basic iPhones still have a standard 60Hz screen. However, compared to what’s available in Android phones, especially in the midrange and flagship options, the display on basic iPhones doesn’t seem as impressive. It’s a bit disappointing that you can find Android phones costing around $200 with high refresh rate displays, while a base iPhone, which is more expensive at $700, still has a 60Hz screen.
Some reports also predicted a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera instead of the large Dynamic Island, but it appears that it’s not happening with the iPhone 16.
Some reports suggest that in the future, iPhones might have a face unlock feature hidden under the display. However, this is not expected to happen until at least the iPhone 17.
