The Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation (MoHRE) in the UAE issues various types of work permits based on factors like job nature, employee age, and other considerations.
These permits enable registered establishments to hire employees.
As per Article 6 of the Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021, also known as the ‘UAE Labour Law’, it is unlawful for an individual to work in the UAE without a valid work permit issued in accordance with MoHRE procedures.
Among the different types of permits, the ministry also grants a freelance permit to self-sponsored foreigners in the UAE. This category includes individuals who provide services or perform tasks for individuals or companies without being sponsored by a specific employer in the UAE or having an employment contract.
Pakistani freelancers are eligible to obtain a UAE work permit for a duration of two years. They must possess a valid residence visa prior to applying for this permit. The official website indicates that the fee for a freelance work permit for two years is AED250.
