The temporary federal government has given the green light to appoint Lt General Mohammad Munir Afsar as the chairman of the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra).
Afsar, who currently holds the position of IG Communication and IT at GHQ, comes from the 16 Punjab Regiment.
Previously, Asad Rehman temporarily took on the role of acting Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) after Tariq Malik’s resignation on June 13.
It’s important to note that according to the Nadra Ordinance, only an independent individual can be appointed to this position. This excludes government officials, retired officers, or secretaries from being eligible for this role.
However, in August, the interim federal cabinet approved controversial regulations allowing military personnel to be appointed as the head of the institution.
