ISLAMABAD – In Pakistan, every citizen has the right to obtain a machine-readable passport for international travel, provided they meet all the necessary criteria. The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports, an affiliated department under the Ministry of Interior, is responsible for issuing passports to Pakistani citizens.
If a passport is still valid but has less than 12 months left before expiration, individuals can apply for renewal. This applies to both citizens living within the country and those residing overseas. The renewed passport can have an extended validity of either 5 or 10 years.
How to Apply for Renewal of Passport?
To initiate the passport renewal process, applicants may need to visit the nearest passport office for an interview, if required by the authorities. Additionally, the Directorate has introduced an online platform for passport renewal applications, catering to both residents and overseas citizens. They can simply visit the official website at https://onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk/e-passport/ to begin the renewal process.
