KARACHI – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is set to reduce international fares following the approval of a waiver on the Federal Excise Duty (FED) by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The national carrier will lower international ticket prices as a result of the IMF’s approval of the FED waiver, which was granted at the request of the current government. This move is expected to offer significant savings for travelers. Passengers heading to the US could benefit from a reduction of up to Rs 3.5 lac, while those traveling to regions like Africa and the Gulf may see fare cuts of around Rs 1 lac. Additionally, travelers to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East may enjoy savings of up to Rs 2 lac.
The fare reduction comes after the FED was imposed on flight tickets in the 2024 budget, providing some relief to passengers. Meanwhile, the government is continuing its efforts to privatize the loss-making airline and is revising regulations to allow bidders to compete for a 60% stake in PIA.
