LAHORE – Total cement dispatches in October 2024 reached 4.357 million tons, up from 4.006 million tons in the same month last fiscal year, marking an increase of 8.74 percent.
This growth can be attributed primarily to strong exports, despite a slight decline in local dispatches during October 2024.
According to data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) on Monday, local cement dispatches in October 2024 totaled 3.276 million tons, down from 3.292 million tons in October 2023, reflecting a decline of 0.49 percent.
In contrast, exports surged by 51.29 percent, rising from 714,325 tons in October 2023 to 1,080,691 tons in October 2024.
North-based mills dispatched 2.982 million tons of cement in October 2024, marking a 2.76 percent increase compared to 2.902 million tons in October 2023. Meanwhile, south-based mills dispatched 1.374 million tons, which represents a 24.4 percent increase from 1.104 million tons in the same month last year.
In terms of local markets, north-based mills dispatched 2.779 million tons in October 2024, showing nearly flat growth compared to 2.780 million tons in October 2023. South-based mills, however, saw local dispatches drop by 3.06 percent to 496,626 tons from 512,320 tons in October 2023.
Exports from the north saw a significant rise of 65.83 percent, increasing from 122,326 tons in October 2023 to 202,858 tons in October 2024. Similarly, exports from the south grew by 48.28 percent, reaching 877,833 tons in October 2024 compared to 591,999 tons during the same month last year.
For the first four months of the current fiscal year, total dispatches (domestic and exports) amounted to 14.633 million tons, which is a decline of 7.92 percent from 15.891 million tons during the same period last fiscal year.
Domestic dispatches were recorded at 11.410 million tons, down 15.02 percent from 13.426 million tons during the same timeframe last year. Conversely, exports increased by 30.74 percent, rising to 3.223 million tons in the first four months of the current fiscal year from 2.466 million tons in the corresponding period last year.
North-based mills delivered 9.643 million tons domestically during the first four months of the current fiscal year, a reduction of 13.23 percent compared to 11.113 million tons from July to October 2023. Exports from the north increased by 28.95 percent, totaling 709,959 tons during July to October 2024 compared to 550,561 tons during the same period last year.
Overall, total dispatches from the north decreased by 11.24 percent to 10.353 million tons in the first four months of the current financial year from 11.664 million tons during the same timeframe last year.
In contrast, domestic dispatches from south-based mills during July to October 2024 were 1.767 million tons, reflecting a decrease of 23.59 percent compared to 2.312 million tons during the same period last fiscal year. Exports from the south rose by 31.25 percent, reaching 2.513 million tons during July to October 2024, compared to 1.915 million tons in the previous year.
Total dispatches by south-based mills increased slightly by 1.25 percent to 4.280 million tons in the first four months of the current financial year, up from 4.227 million tons during the same period last year.
