Beirut: Hezbollah has appointed Naeem Qasim as the new leader of the party.
A month after the martyrdom of Hassan Nasrallah, Lebanon’s resistance group Hezbollah has officially elected Naeem Qasim as its new leader.
Naeem Qasim had served as Nasrallah’s deputy for a long time and was named acting leader following Nasrallah’s martyrdom. He had also been a member of Hezbollah’s Shura Council for three consecutive terms.
Initially, it was widely expected that Nasrallah’s cousin and son-in-law, Hashim Safiuddin, would be chosen to lead Hezbollah, but Safiuddin was also martyred in an Israeli attack a few days ago.
Hassan Nasrallah, who served as Hezbollah’s Secretary-General and leader for many years, was martyred in an Israeli strike last month.
