The Federal Board of Revenue announces changes to the Income Tax Rules.
The Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to announce important amendments to the Income Tax Rules, 2002, as detailed in S.R.O. 1638(I)/2024, dated 18th October 2024. These revisions, issued under section 237 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, aim to improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the Active Taxpayer’s List (ATL) system.
after new amendments, the Active Taxpayer’s List (ATL) will now be updated daily, This change ensures that taxpayers who fulfill their filing obligations are promptly recognized as active. Taxpayers who file their Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the current tax year (2024) by the deadline, or within any granted extension, will be included in the ATL immediately.
Furthermore, taxpayers who submit their returns after the due date or any granted extension can still be added to the ATL by paying the surcharge outlined in section 182A of the Income Tax Ordinance.
