The Punjab government has officially launched the Himmat Card, a significant initiative designed to provide financial assistance and support to persons with disabilities across the province. This program is a collaborative effort between the Department of Social Welfare and the Bank of Punjab, marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
ATM Cards for Special Persons
As part of the Himmat Card initiative, the Bank of Punjab will issue ATM cards to 65,000 special individuals in two phases:
- Phase 1: 40,000 individuals will receive the Himmat Cards.
- Phase 2: 25,000 more cards will be issued to the remaining eligible individuals.
Himmat Card Quarterly Stipend Amount
Through the Himmat Card, each special person across Punjab will receive a quarterly stipend of Rs10,500. This marks an increase from the previous amount of Rs7,500 per quarter, ensuring better financial support for persons with disabilities.
Himmat Card Payment Date
The first payments through the Himmat Card are scheduled to begin by September 15, 2024. This timely distribution will provide much-needed assistance to the beneficiaries.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Statement
During the ceremony, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the state’s responsibility to care for deserving individuals, particularly those with disabilities, and the underprivileged sections of society. She highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the lives of special individuals through initiatives like the Himmat Card.
