Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, recently made significant decisions regarding the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the region, aimed at improving urban mobility and expanding transportation options.
Fare Increase and Route Extension
Ali Amin Gandapur approved a fare increase of 5 to 10 rupees for the BRT system, with part of the fare proceeds designated to cover operational costs. This decision was endorsed during a meeting of the Urban Mobility Authority board chaired by the Chief Minister. The BRT route, originally from Chamkani in Peshawar to Hayatabad, has been extended to include Pabbi in Nowshera, enhancing connectivity across these areas.
Introduction of Electric Buses and Free Travel for Children
Recognizing the importance of sustainable transportation, Ali Amin Gandapur directed the introduction of electric buses in urban areas across divisional headquarters. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to reducing environmental impact while promoting modern transportation solutions.
Additionally, children up to the age of five will now travel for free on BRT buses, aiming to make public transport more accessible and affordable for families.
Future Plans and Strategies
Emphasizing the need for efficient execution of plans, Chief Minister Gandapur instructed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy to expedite the construction of BRT plazas. These plazas are crucial for enhancing the infrastructure supporting the BRT system and ensuring seamless operations.
