Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) faced a big fine because one of its flight attendants traveled to Canada without her passport, according to ARY News, which got the information from sources within the company.
According to sources, the air hostess was scheduled for duty on flight PK-781 from Islamabad to Toronto when the unprecedented incident occurred.
In the aftermath of this breach, the national carrier faced a significant fine for permitting flight attendants to enter Canada without appropriate documentation.
A representative from PIA confirmed that a $250 fine was imposed for the incident, highlighting the seriousness of the violation. However, the spokesperson denied allegations that the air hostess intended to seek political asylum upon arriving in Canada.
It’s worth noting that over the past two years, more than 10 PIA air hostesses have reportedly gone missing in Canada, sparking concerns regarding the welfare and safety of airline staff on international routes.
Earlier this month, on March 1, another PIA cabin crew member was reported to be missing in Canada, according to a spokesperson from the national airline.
Jibran Baloch, a flight steward, was expected to return for duty on PIA flight PK-782 in Toronto on February 29, but failed to show up for work on the return flight to Pakistan.
Recently, a female air hostess named Maryam Raza also disappeared from her hotel. Upon inspection of her hotel room, authorities discovered her uniform along with a note reading, “Thank you, PIA,” according to ARY News.
Dawn reported that on March 14, the Aircraft Owners and Operators Association (AOOA) of Pakistan published a white paper. This paper talked about the problems faced by the aviation industry. It said that the issues were caused by a lack of professionalism, particularly regarding pilot licenses. These problems led to European Union (EU) countries banning Pakistani airlines from operating in their territories.
In the white paper, the AOOA stressed the significance of putting the right people in appropriate roles in the industry. They discussed different reasons for the industry’s downturn and suggested steps to fix it.
