RAWALPINDI – The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has announced strict measures to curb water wastage in the city by imposing heavy fines on both domestic and commercial users.
A new notification from WASA states that a fine of up to Rs20,000 will be charged for wasting water while washing floors or vehicles. According to the notification, domestic users will face a fine of Rs10,000 for a first violation, while commercial users will incur a Rs20,000 fine. In case of a second violation, the water connection will be permanently disconnected.
This decision follows a directive from the court, which instructed WASA to implement a comprehensive strategy to address and prevent the misuse of water resources. The court’s ruling emphasized the need for stronger measures to protect the city’s water supply amid growing concerns over water scarcity.
Water wastage from non-essential activities such as washing cars and floors has become an increasing problem, particularly in urban areas like Rawalpindi, where water shortages are a growing concern. The introduction of fines is part of a broader effort to encourage more efficient use of water, especially as demand continues to rise in densely populated cities.
With the country facing significant challenges related to water conservation, local authorities are taking steps to ensure that this vital resource is used responsibly.
