WhatsApp Introduces Channels Feature in Pakistan

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has globally launched its new feature called WhatsApp Channels, similar to Telegram’s channels. Initially available to select users in specific countries, this tool is now accessible in over 150 countries. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, made the announcement on Facebook.

WhatsApp Channels serve as a one-way broadcast system, allowing users to receive updates from individuals, brands, and organizations directly within the WhatsApp app. It’s distinct from the longstanding Broadcast Lists feature in WhatsApp, which lets you send messages individually to recipients. Channels, on the other hand, can be publicly followed by millions.

While the rollout of WhatsApp Channels has commenced, it may not be available to all users immediately. The introduction of features like creating your own channel is also being gradually implemented where Channels are accessible.

Here’s how to create a WhatsApp Channel:

1. Open WhatsApp and go to the Updates tab.
2. Tap the plus sign (+) and select New channel.
3. Start the process by tapping Get started and follow the onscreen prompts.
4. Provide a name for your channel and complete the setup.
5. You can choose to customize your channel or do it later.
6. Tap Create channel to finish.

Key Features of WhatsApp Channels:

1. Enhanced Directory: Find channels to follow, sorted by country. You can also explore new, most active, and popular channels based on follower count.
2. Reactions: Express feedback using emojis, and see a tally of total reactions. Your specific reaction remains private to your followers.
3. Forwarding: When you forward an update to chats or groups, it includes a link back to the channel for more information.
