The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a warning about the potential threat of terrorist activities by Khawarij militants during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad on November 24.
According to NACTA, there is credible intelligence indicating that Khawarij elements are planning terrorist attacks in major cities across Pakistan. Reports suggest that several militants associated with the group have crossed the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and entered Pakistan.
NACTA disclosed that these crossings occurred on the night of November 19 and 20, and the militants are now believed to be present in various major cities.
In light of this threat, NACTA has directed authorities to tighten security measures and issued a threat alert to prepare for possible attacks.
The warning highlights a specific risk during PTI’s protest in Islamabad, where the Khawarij group may target the gathering. NACTA has urged all security agencies to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents.
This development underscores the ongoing security challenges in the country, particularly amid public gatherings and political events.
