The National Highway Authority (NHA) has once again escalated toll tax rates on National highways and Motorways, eliciting discontent among a populace already grappling with inflationary pressures.

In a notification issued by the NHA, the augmented taxes are applicable to several key routes, including the M1 Islamabad-Peshawar, M3 Lahore-Abdul Hakim, M4 Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad Multan, Motorway M5 Multan-Sukkur, and M14 DI Khan, as well as the E35 Hussainabad-Hasan Abdal-Havelian-Mansehra Expressway.

The revised tax regime is slated to take effect on July 1, 2024, and will persist until further notice. As per the updated schedule, the toll for cars will witness a surge from Rs30 to Rs40 on national highways, while wagons will incur an increased toll of Rs70.

The announcement has sparked concerns among citizens already burdened by rising living costs. With inflationary pressures looming large, the additional strain posed by escalated toll taxes exacerbates the financial challenges faced by the populace.
