In preparation for the upcoming general elections in Lahore, a comprehensive traffic plan has been put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
City Traffic Officer Amara Athar has announced key measures to manage traffic on polling day. Parking arrangements will be made at least 200 yards away from sensitive and busy roads leading to polling stations. The objective is to facilitate easy access while maintaining the security of the polling areas.
To guarantee a peaceful electoral process, district police and other law enforcement agencies will collaborate closely and extend their full cooperation.
CTO Amara Athar emphasized the active involvement of all officers, from constables to the CTO, who will be present to assist and guide citizens throughout the day. The duty roster includes a total of 320 A-category and 1248 B-category polling stations, with supervision led by SPs Sohail Fazil, Shehzad Khan, and Malik Ikram.
Athar further outlined the deployment of resources, detailing the presence of 12 DSPs, 500 senior wardens, over 3,000 wardens, and 136 lady wardens. These personnel will collaborate with district police on polling day to ensure a smooth and organized process. Additionally, 20 tow trucks and 4 breakdown vehicles will be deployed in shifts to manage traffic effectively.
As the general elections are scheduled for February 8, today marks the conclusion of the election campaign. The Election Commission has completed the delivery of over 26 crore ballot papers. Stringent measures will be taken against any violations, with the original ID card being mandatory for voting. Notably, voting will also be allowed with expired ID cards.
The Election Commission spokesperson announced the suspension of internet services at sensitive polling stations in Balochistan as a security measure. Despite facing challenges like adverse weather conditions, the commission successfully completed the ballot paper delivery process through both land and air channels. Comprehensive security, transportation, communication, and emergency plans at the provincial level are in place to ensure a seamless and secure electoral process.
